Why we built Brane for the web
Brane exists to make it easier to make friends and meet locals, whether you’ve lived somewhere for years, just moved, or are only visiting. Until now that started with an app download, and an app download is a lot to ask of someone who just wants to see who else nearby is into running, board games or Formula 1.
On the web, the first step is a link. Open it, sign in with your email and a six digit code, and you’re looking at the people, Crowds and events around you. No app store and no phone number.
What you can do on brane.chat
- Make friends near you: type any interest and see who else nearby is into it, then say hi. There are no friend requests and no swiping.
- Join group chats: Crowds are group chats for every interest, from run clubs to trivia teams. Read along first and join in when something suits you.
- Find something to turn up to: browse events near you, each with its own chat that starts before you arrive.
- Look around any city: search anywhere in the world on the live map and see what’s happening there.
Groups and events matter because they take the pressure off. Instead of relying on one stranger, you’re turning up to something with a few people who already share an interest, which is how most friendships start anyway. One account, every device
Sign in with the same email on brane.chat and in the Brane app and everything is shared: your profile, your friends, the Crowds you’ve joined and every conversation. Start a chat at your desk and carry it on from your phone when you head out. Already use the app? You don’t need to set anything up, just sign in on the web.
Meet locals before your trip starts
Most trips get planned on a laptop, with flights in one tab and accommodation in another. Now you can add a tab for the people. Use Brane Teleport to look around your destination, join the Crowds for what you’re into there and see what’s on while you plan the rest. When you land, the same chats are on your phone and you arrive already knowing a few names.
